Brief History of Toyo Tire North America Manufacturing Inc.
2004 – Toyo Tire selects Georgia for Its new North American PlantIn response to robust overseas demand, primarily in North America, Toyo Tire & Rubber announced its decision to build a manufacturing plant within North America. After extensive consideration of candidate site locations primarily in the southeastern United States, the company determined that the site in Bartow County, outside of Atlanta Georgia, to be the most suitable.
The new facility, Toyo Tire North America Inc. (TNA), incorporated the Company’s proprietary tire manufacturing system, Advanced Tire Operation Module (A.T.O.M.), making it possible for the Company to maintain a high standard of quality while realizing the flexibility to produce small production runs of multiple lines of tires. TNA is responsible for production of both the Toyo Tires and Nitto tire Brands.
Thanks to smooth progress in the construction plan made possible by intensive facility construction and preparations, the experimental tire production has become a reality within less than a year after groundbreaking ceremony on October 19, 2004.
2005 – Toyo Rolls out first experimental tire at its new Georgia Plant
In December of 2005 a Grand Opening Ceremony was held for the new Georgia facility. In addition to dealers from around the world, local and state officials were in attendance for this event.
2006 – Toyo grants reinforce Toyo’s commitment to Bartow County Environmental OrganizationsThe Toyo Group environmental Protection Fund, in conjunction with Toyo Tire North America, announced two grants to Bartow County environmental groups; the Margaret and Luke Pettit Environmental Preserve, Inc., and Keep Bartow Beautiful organization.
In addition Toyo Tire North America team members volunteered their time to go the Margaret and Luke Pettit Preserve to build hiking trails and perform general maintenance of the facility.
2007 – Changes to Trade Names of Subsidiary and Second-tier SubsidiariesIn December of 2007 Toyo Tire & Rubber Company announced the name change of “Toyo Tire North America Inc.” to “Toyo Tire North America Manufacturing Inc.”
2008 – Toyo Tire North America Manufacturing Inc. Receives ISO-9001:2000 Certification by Lloyd’s Register Quality Assurance.Already known for its product quality, TNA’s ISO-9001-2000 certification means that the facility meets internationally recognized quality standards for the production of tires.
2009 – Toyo Tires Named Georgia Manufacturer of the YearIn May 2009 Toyo Tire North America Manufacturing Inc. (TNA) was named Georgia Manufacturer of the Year. The award was received in the large company category, which honors those with more than 500 employees. Jim Lientz, chief operating officer for the State of Georgia, presented Toyo Tires with this prestigious award during the Georgia Manufacturing Appreciation Week in Atlanta.

2010 – Toyo Tire North America Manufacturing Inc. Produces 5-Millionth TireIn January 2010 Toyo Tire North America Manufacturing Inc. in Bartow County Georgia produced its 5-millionth tire.
2011 – Toyo Tire North America Manufacturing Inc. to Expand in Bartow CountyToyo Tire committed today to its future growth in Georgia in a Bartow County ceremony attended by Gov. Nathan Deal. Toyo Tire North America Manufacturing President Jim Hawk and James Jarrett, Chairman of the Bartow-Cartersville Joint Development Authority, signed an agreement to expand Bartow County’s bonding capacity an additional $910 million. The agreement enables Toyo to expand its current facility, adding up to 470 new jobs over the next few years.
“This agreement is a great example of the kind of business-friendly environment we pride ourselves on here in Georgia,” said Deal. “I applaud the vision of Bartow County’s leadership for taking steps to ensure the community and the company will continue to benefit from this very productive partnership.”
2012 – Toyo Tires Implements Organizational ReformJames L. Hawk, President of Toyo Tire North America Manufacturing Inc., was named Senior Corporate Officer and General Manager, Toyo North American Business Unit.
2013 – Toyo Tire North America Manufacturing Inc. Receives ISO 14001:2004 Environmental Management Systems CertificationTNA’s Environmental Policy and Mission Statement states, “TNA is committed to excellence, leadership and continuous improvement in preserving and protecting the environment, minimizing environmental impacts concerning our activities, products and services. TNA is committed to environmental compliance, other legal requirements and is guided by a strong awareness of critical issues, including protection of the environment and the reduction of environmental load.”
“Environmental responsibility has been a priority at Toyo Tire North America from the beginning. We have developed and implemented our own environmental management processes and activities that assure employees are working for an environmentally conscious company,” said Barbara J. Long, M.S., CECD, Environmental, Safety & Health Coordinator, Toyo Tire North America Manufacturing, Inc. “This voluntary certification demonstrates this commitment to minimizing environmental impact and being a responsible member of our community.”
2013 - Toyo Tire North America Manufacturing, Inc. (TNA) broke ground for its fourth expansion.This expansion resulted in a 700,000-square foot addition to its current 2,000,000-square foot tire manufacturing plant.
The warehouse portion of the facility was also be expanded by 323,000-square feet in order to accommodate the increasing demand for Toyo Tires and Nitto brand premium light truck and passenger car tires.
The parent company, Toyo Tire & Rubber Company in Osaka japan, is investing $371-million in the TNA expansion over the next four years. This investment will result in the creation of 650 new jobs in the State of Georgia.

In September of this year, TNA achieved its certification to the latest ISO 14001:2004 Environmental Management Systems. On November 27, 2013, the manufacturing facility reached a milestone by achieving a total production of 20,000,000 tires since it was founded.
2013 – Toyo Tires’ Jim Hawk Named Rubber Industry Executive of the YearMr. Hawk, Chairman of Toyo Tires Holdings of Americas, was selected for the award by the editorial staff of Rubber & Plastics News, considering nominations from both the editorial staff and from those in the industry.
“Jim Hawk personifies the type of leader Rubber & Plastics News looks for in honoring its executives of the year,” said David Zielasko, Publisher of Rubber & Plastics News. “He has a long history in the tire and rubber industry and has done an outstanding job in leading Toyo to great success in North America.”
2014 – Toyo Tires Recognized for Quality Design and ManufacturingToyo Tire North America Manufacturing Inc. (TNA) received TS 16949:2009 certification for the design and manufacturing of passenger and light truck tires. The quality management system standards certification was issued by Lloyd’s Register Quality Assurance Limited of Houston, Texas.
